At Papillon, we believe in offering our students hands-on learning experiences that foster empathy, responsibility, and an understanding of the world around them. One of the most memorable excursions for our Playgroup children is the visit to Havana Horse Natural Horse Riding School in Salatiga. This special trip provides our little ones not only with the opportunity to learn how to ride a horse but also to deeply understand the nature of these magnificent creatures.
The children learned that horses are social beings, and cannot simply be kept in a stable; they need space, companionship, and care. At the school, the students were guided through the basics of interacting with horses, feeding them, and even brushing their coats. This gave them a true sense of the bond that can form between humans and animals, teaching them the importance of respect and nurturing the creatures around them.
In addition to learning about horses, the children were able to immerse themselves in an environment where empathy and care are key. By the end of the day, they had not only gained new skills in horseback riding but also developed a deeper connection with nature and a stronger sense of responsibility for the well-being of other living beings.
This excursion was not only a fun-filled day but also a meaningful opportunity for our playgroup children to learn about empathy, responsibility, and the beauty of connecting with animals. Experiences like these help shape their understanding of the world and their place within it, nurturing them to be loving and caring individuals. As Maria Montessori beautifully said,
"The land is where our roots are. The children must be taught to feel and live in harmony with the Earth."
We look forward to many more enriching adventures like this one!
